50th Anniversary Celebration Award Recipients


Congratulations to this year’s BG Alumni Association Award Recipients! 

Lifetime Spirit Award: Robert Jordan ’70

The newly created Lifetime Spirit Award recognizes a person who has demonstrated dedication to Bishop Grimes over the years through personal commitment, contribution and leadership. This year’s recipient, Robert Jordan, class of 1970, has been devoted to the school as a member of its first class in the fall of 1966. A member of the first graduating class, he continues to visit BG and fills the halls with his infectious spirit, reminding students just how lucky they are to be there.  Congratulations on your success Bob, and thank you for supporting the school and students while maintaining contact and communications with your classmates.

Distinguished Alumni Award: John Chapman ’76

The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes an alumnus/a who has excelled in his/her field and attained outstanding success. Congratulations to this year’s recipient, John Chapman, class of 1976, who has become extremely successful in management and technology over the past 40 years. John began his career working for several telecommunication firms. He spent ten plus years growing PAETEC Communications, acquired by Windstream. He has served as Chief Marketing Officer for PAETEC Communications, and more recently in leadership positions with other technology-related enterprises! Congratulations on all of your success John!

The Faculty Award: Paul Duran 

This award is presented to an outstanding member of the faculty, past or present, who has demonstrated a commitment to the mission of Bishop Grimes through their dedication to the students both inside and outside of the classroom. This year’s recipient, Paul Duran, served Bishop Grimes from 1971 to 2008. Before starting at Bishop Grimes Paul taught at Archbishop Walsh in Olean, NY for five years. Paul started at Bishop Grimes as an English and Latin teacher, as well as, assistant Dean of Students. During this time he also coached Football and Track. In 1990 he moved to the position of Director of Guidance until he retired in 2008. With over 40 years of total service as an educator, we’d like to congratulate and thank Paul Duran.

Distinguished Citizen of the Year: Henry W. Fust

This award recognizes an individual for his/her outstanding contributions to the school community and society through professional and personal experience. Dedicated to Bishop Grimes, Hank is currently Chair of the Bishop Grimes Board of Trustees. He has been a member of the Board since 2013 and has been responsible for coordinating the full Board’s efforts in implementing best-practice business models thereby ensuring a strong future for Bishop Grimes.

Hank is a founding partner of Fust Charles Chambers, LLP, one of the largest CPA firms in Central NY. In addition to his work with Bishop Grimes, Hank serves as a Trustee for Le Moyne College and is a member of the board of The Boys and Girls Club of Syracuse, Inc., The First Tee of Syracuse and the New York State Golf Association. Congratulations Hank, and thank you for your support of Bishop Grimes and the CNY community.
